Defending Champs begin title defense with big win

PECOS – The defending Class 3A State Champions the Brownfield Lady Cubs defeated Anthony Lady Wildcats 108-16 in the Bi-District round of the Class 3A playoffs. The Lady Cubs had seven players score in double figures led by Deja Johnson with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and an assist in the win. Tia Johnson had 17 points, 9 rebounds, a steal, and 4 assists. Lindsey Herrera had 15 points and 5 assists. Gabi Fields and Shay’la Blackwell each had 14 points with Fields dishing out 9 assists. Rhianna Miranda had 11 points and Dabria Blackwell added 10 points. The Lady Cubs advance to the Area Round for a rematch with Idalou.

Lady Cubs Powerlifters qualify for regional

LEVELLAND – The Brownfield Lady Cubs Powerlifting team competed at the Levelland Powerlifting Meet on Saturday, February 12 and the Cubs Powerlifting team competed at the Slaton Powerlifting Meet on Thursday, February 10. Both teams had a strong showing at each meet according to Head Coach Jacob Perez.

Cubs fall on the road in finale

DIMMITT – The Brownfield Cubs basketball team fell to Dimmitt 57-53 on Tuesday night in their district road finale. The loss handed the District 3-3A championship to Dimmitt and the district’s top seed in the Class 3A playoffs. The Cubs had two players score in double figures led by Jojo Carrillo with 18 points and Devin Hines added 15 points. With the loss the Cubs fell into a three way tie for second, third, and fourth place with Denver City and Lamesa.

Lady Broncos fall to Klondike in bi-district round

The Meadow Lady Broncos fell 51-23 to the Klondike Lady Cougars on the road Monday night, in the bi-district round of playoffs, to end their season. The Lady Broncos had a slow start in the first quarter with the Lady Cougars outscoring Meadow 12-3. A strong second quarter surge netted the Lady Broncos nine points for their highest scoring quarter of the game. In the second half the Lady Cougars continued to extend their lead, with the Lady Broncos scoring 11 total points in the second half. Leading the Lady Broncos in scoring was J’Leigh Tarin with five points, followed by Ciara Villalpando and K’Lynn Tarin with four points each. The Lady Broncos ended the district season at 7-4.

Wellman-Union Lady 'Cats knocked out in Bi-District

Wellman-Union Lady ‘Cats suffered a loss in the Bi-District round to Borden County, 82-29. The Lady ‘Cats played hard and hustled, Borden County was a highly talented team that can shoot the lights out in the gym, and they did just that. Cameron Resendez led the team in scoring tonight with 11 points.
