Brownfield Alum, Coach of the Year

This was Kyle Isaacs’ first year as head coach of the Arizona Western College Matadors men’s basketball team. In his first season, Isaacs’ team recorded a 26-5 overall record and a 18-2 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference record which includes a playoff win and a loss in the Region I championship game in overtime. With his success he was recently named the ACCAC Coach of the Year.

City Council hears draft on alcohol beverage consumption and sale in city parks

The Brownfield City Council met on Thursday morning, March 3rd, for its first meeting of the month. There was plenty on the agenda including City Attorney Matt Wade giving an update to the council on Ordinance No. 2126 that deals with alcohol consumption and sale in city parks. The council heard the quarterly updates from the Brownfield Fire Chief and Municipal Court Judge. They had the Brownfield Police Chief request a stop sign be placed and made an amendment to the fiscal budget for repairs to the East and West elevated storage tanks. There was an executive session dealing with certain public power utilities on supply pricing but no action was taken when the council returned to open session. The first item of business was the naming of Fire Captain Britney Shaw as the March Employee of the Month by Mayor Tom Hesse.

Ballot Board approves late ballot by mail for Primary

The Ballot Board met on Thursday, March 3rd at noon to process ballots by mail that were received the day after the Primary Election. Joint Elections Director Krystal Valentin said via text the Ballot Board accepted and counted six additional ballots, four Republican and one Democrat.

The Brownfield Noon Lions Club

The Brownfield Noon Lions Club held its meeting at noon on Thursday at Coleman Park Party House for members and guests. The Noon Lions Club had two special speakers attend the meeting Anthony Ferguson and Nicholas Seaton who, along with their wives Tracy Ferguson and Katy Jane Seaton are the owners of Winehouse Parker.
