City council discusses consumption of alcohol in parks and at events

The Brownfield City Council members braved the snow and cold to meet on Thursday morning for their regularly scheduled meeting. Mayor Tom Hesse called the meeting to order once the quorum was present with council members Judy Besler, Eric Horton, Michael Tackitt, and Celso Duran. Councilwoman Michelle Cooper and City Attorney Matt Wade participated via Zoom, and council members Ricky Rocha and Isaiah Bautista were absent. At the start of the meeting, Hesse recognized Israel Roman as February’s Employee of the Month.

BABY HAYES DANIEL SWARINGEN

Baby Hayes Daniel Swaringen was born into the arms of Jesus on December 30, 2021, at Medical City Plano in Plano, Texas. Born at 35 weeks, he weighed 5 pounds 3 ounces and was 19 inches long. He was born to parents Avery Elaine (Whitmore) and Seth Daniel Swaringen. Although Hayes never spent any time with us on earth, he was very loved and touched many lives. He will live in our hearts forever. Hayes is survived by his parents, Avery and Seth Swaringen; his maternal great-grandmother, Mary Whitmore; his maternal grandparents, Vicki and Marcus Whitmore; his paternal grandparents, Marla and Mike Swaringen; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Avery and Seth would like to personally thank the nurses and doctors at Medical City Plano for all of their compassion and support during this very tough time. We will be forever grateful. A private graveside service for the family will be held at Ridgeview West Memorial Park at a later date.

Services for Rene Perez, 43, of Lubbock will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Brownfield Funeral Home Chapel with Anthony Saavedra officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brownfield Funeral Home. Rene was born on March 23, 1978 in Lubbock to Bonifacio and Berta Perez. He loved attending church and singing. He enjoyed bowling and fishing, but his favorite pastime was bingo. Rene is preceded in death by father Bonifacio Perez; brother, Jose Angel Perez and sister Margarita Perez. Rene is survived by mother, Berta Perez; brothers, Benito Perez and wife Julie and Carlos Perez; sisters, Stella Davila husband Santiago, Angelita Reyna and husband Willie, Anita Trevino and husband Steve, and Yolanda Perez and numerous nieces and nephews.
