52nd Annual FIRECRACKER RUN

The West Texas Running Club held its 52nd Annual Firecracker Run at Coleman Park on Saturday, July 3. The run had three races with a fun run of one mile for kids up to fifth grade, a three mile run, and a 10k run. All race results are available on wtrunning.com website. The three mile run had 77 runners and the 10k had 40 runners.

Brownfield zoning board meets to hear carport variance

The Brownfield Zoning Board of Adjustments was able to get the board together to listen to a resident’s request for a variance to build a carport on their property. The board heard from two parties the homeowner and his plans for the carport and the owner of the property next door. The home in question is on the corner of East Buckley Street and South Cedar Street, and using Google Maps the board was able to see the property. Before listening to the homeowner, and owner of the house next door, City Manager Jeff Davis told the board that under the city ordinance you are not allowed to have a carport unless there is one on the same side or opposing lot. The homeowner will be the first to have a carport in the neighborhood if allowed.

A Ford Platinum

A Ford Platinum Super duty pickup truck driving southbound on 62/385 lost control, went into the median, causing it to overturn and come to rest on the northbound side due to hydroplaning on Friday, July 2. The driver of the vehicle was not taken to the hospital but was tended to by EMT workers on site. The Brownfield Fire Department and Terry County Sheriff were on site making sure traffic continued smoothly as workers made the effort to get the vehicle off its side and towed.

The family of David Brock will celebrate his life of 67 years at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 6025 82nd St. in Lubbock. He passed on Tuesday, June 29, 2021. We invite you to visit www.memorialdesigners.net for more information. On August 16, 1953, John David was born to Daymond and Virginia Brock in Seminole, TX. He married Lynette Christian on November 11, 1977, in Lubbock Texas. Survivors include his wife, Lynette Brock; children, Michelle (Marcus) Young, Cody (Niatalie) Brock, Brandee Gallegos; grandchildren, Annika Young, Mallory Brock, Natalie Brock, Ella Brock, Dakota Brock; his parents Daymond and Virginia Brock; siblings, Mike (Mary) Brock, Scott (Roberta) Brock; Dayna (Kyle) King. He was preceded in death by son, Cory Brock. The family of John Brock has designated the Cactus Drive Church of Christ in Levelland Texas for memorial contributions donated in his memory.
