An Infinity Q23 SUV

An Infinity Q23 SUV had a small engine fire that the Fire Department was able to extinguish at the Stripes parking lot on Seagraves Road. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, keeping visible damage to just the engine, a few melted plastic parts, and the inside of the hood.

Charlotte Lynch

Charlotte Lynch, 92, of Canyon, TX and formerly of Lovington, NM, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday July 17, 2021 at Third and Central Church of Christ in Lovington, New Mexico with David Lough, minister of University Church of Christ in Canyon, Texas and David Stewart, minister of 3rd & Central Church of Christ in Lovington, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Ratliff Funeral Home in Lovington, NM. Charlotte was born on April 7, 1929 on the family farm located five miles southwest of Brownfield, Texas in the Needmore Community to Marshall Hillride (“Sunk”) and Mabel Pauline (Lee) Bennett. She graduated from Meadow High School in 1947. Charlotte married Bennie Medlin Lynch on October 25, 1954 in Eunice, NM. She was an abstractor for L. Dene Stephens of Lea County Abstract Company where she was known for her beautiful penmanship in the tract books. Charlotte was a wonderful cook, loved gardening, and played the piano for the girls’ chorus in high school. She had a beautiful alto voice which she used to sing for funerals and weddings. She also enjoyed reading to learn and stay current. Charlotte was a member of 3rd & Central Church of Christ in Lovington, NM. She moved to Canyon in 2017. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband of 50 years in 2005, two infant brothers, Paul Douglas and Douglas Marshall Bennett, one brother, Cloyce Daniel Bennett in 2014, one sister, Wanda Colleen Kimbell in 2016, her son, Jerry Michael Lynch in 2009, her son, David Alan Lynch in 2016 and her great-grandson, Lukas David Lough in 2019. Survivors include her daughter, Lynette Lough and husband, David of Canyon; three grandsons, David Sumner Lough and wife, Ann of Canyon, Michael Lough and wife, Lydia of Trumbull, NE, and Christopher Lough of Austin; daughter-in-law, Kim Lynch of Brownfield; two granddaughters, Kelsey Lamprecht and husband, David of Brownfield, and Korey McMillan and husband, Stephen of Huntsville; one great-granddaughter and five great-grandsons; one nephew, Bennett Kimbell and wife, Jenni of Houston; two nieces, Dr. Hillary Onan and husband, Atilla of Austin, and Courtney Rodriguez and husband, Larry of Leander; also three great-nieces. The family suggests memorials be to New Mexico Children’s Home, 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130-9983. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Texas vineyards endure rough growing season

Erratic weather dealt Texas vineyards a difficult growing season as the industry continues to recover from pandemic-related setbacks, according to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service experts. Michael Cook, AgriLife Extension viticulturist, Denton, said much of 2020 put financial stress on destination wineries and vineyards that relied heavily on visitors, dining and events like weddings.

With August only a few weeks away

With August only a few weeks away, Brownfield athletes are participating in two types of summer workouts. For some the workouts are still a chance to get run with teammates and enjoy the sport under a coach’s supervision, such as the basketball team. For others, like the tennis team, workouts have become summer practices with the season just around the corner.

Senior Center menu changes with high temperatures-The Brownfield Senior Center will be serving sandwiches, salads, and other types of food when the temperature is forecast to be 98 degrees and higher. When the temperature is predicted to be lower, then the Senior Center will serve what has been scheduled.
