Senior Center menu changes with high temperatures-The Brownfield Senior Center will be serving sandwiches, salads, and other types of food when the temperature is forecast to be 98 degrees and higher. When the temperature is predicted to be lower, then the Senior Center will serve what has been scheduled.

A 2012 Dodge Avenger and a 2006 Chrysler 300 were involved in a two vehicle collision at the intersection of 519 East Broadway on Friday, June 16. Both drivers and passengers were looked at by EMT but refused to be taken to the hospital. No injuries were reported.

The University Interscholastic League legislative council met on June 15, 2021 to discuss possible updates to rules for the upcoming 2021-2022 academic and athletic seasons. The UIL took decisions but three decisions will have an immediate effect going forward, and Brownfield Athletic Director Aarrhon Flores spoke on Section 1207, Section 868, and House Bill 547.

Services for Linda Albert, 66, of Brownfield was held at 10am Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Brownfield Funeral Home Chapel with Douglas officiating. Visitation were from 6-8 pm Monday, July 19, 2021 at Brownfield Funeral Home Chapel. Linda was born on September 14, 1954 in Brownfield to J.C. Wooley and Dora Mae Wooley. She grew up in Gomez Community. She loved her family and especially her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed dancing and traveling in her camper. Spending time with her grandkids was the highlight of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Dora Mae Wooley; infant daughter, Carolyn Thompson; brother, Glen Wooley and a niece, Jami Wooley. Linda is survived by her husband Alvin Albert, Sr.; son, Jeremy Thompson; daughter, Christy Puryear and husband Douglas; stepsons, Alvin Albert, Jr. and wife Staci, Alan Albert and wife Essie; grandchildren, Micah Puryear, Kaidi Albert, Shelbi Albert and Aron Albert; brother, Jim Wooley, sister Freda Wooley; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family of Bennie Brown will celebrate his life of 87 years at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Trinity Church followed by graveside services at 2:00 PM at Terry County Memorial Park, in Brownfield, Texas. His family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. , Friday, July 23, 2021, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. He passed on Sunday, July 18, 2021. On May 5, 1934, Bennie was born to Louis Alvin and Beulah Pearl (Smith) Brown in Brownfield, TX. He attended Wellman Independent School District and was on the first football team of Wellman High. Bennie married his childhood sweetheart, LaDeane Jordan, May 24, 1952. He started his farming career in the Tokio area in 1957. He and his young family then moved to the Brownfield area in 1959, where he continued his lifelong farming career of 45 years. In 2011, Bennie and LaDeane moved to Lubbock to be closer to family and friends, especially their friends at Trinity Church and the Prime Timers class. Bennie’s life can be summarized by his faith, his family and especially his grandchildren, along with gardening and farming. Those were the passions of a life well lived. Survivors include his beloved wife of 69 years, LaDeane Brown; their children, Candy (Randy) Hall, Terry Brown and Steve (Carolyn) Brown; grandchildren, Russell (Krystal) Hall, Trevor (Lara) Hall, Elizabeth (Lucas) Brown, Andrew (Lindsey) Brown, David (Jackie) Brown, Matthew Brown, Jeremy (Sarah) Brown, and Daniel (Audrey) Brown, fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jordan Brown; sisters, Joy Hargrave and Verna Jo Hargrave; and brother, Robert Brown. There isn’t a human on earth who hasn’t at one time or another been discontented, distressed, or in debt. Even at an early age, children and teenagers experience moments of being dissatisfied or fed up with school or rules. And people of all ages have unfortunately suffered heartache and anxiousness. This is the world we live in— this is the world that has always existed. So what’s a person to do? Do we just accept it and mope through life waiting for the sweet by and by?
