Suspect under custody for string of burglaries

After a string of burglaries in the southern part of Brownfield, the police department took into custody suspect Devin Reed on theft of a firearm related to the burglaries. The burglaries occurred Tuesday morning, June 15 when residents reported stolen personal information, money, and a handgun from their vehicles. Officers and detectives used information from the victims that led to Reed’s arrest.

Etta Maude Robbins

Funeral services for Etta Maude Robbins were held 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Challis Baptist Church. Burial followed at Terry County Memorial Cemetery. There was a family visitation at Brownfield Funeral Home from 6pm to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 28, 2021. Etta Robbins, 88, beloved Mother and Wife, was called to her eternal resting place on June 25, 2021. She entered this world on November 16, 1932 in Brownfield, TX, born to Leon Naron May and Mildred Ollie May. Etta married Bruce Smith on July 4, 1946. Bruce preceded her in death on September 6, 1960. She then married Lester Robbins on December 21, 1980. She is preceded in death by husbands, Bruce Smith and Lester Robbins, 2 great grandsons Gideon Smith and Joshua Gilbert, four brothers and two sisters. She is survived by nine children and their spouses, Bruce and Adelya Smith, Hershel Smith, Mary Etta Naron, Becci and David Gooch, Karen And Allen Thrasher, Rita and Ray Austin, Sheila and Steve Fleetwood, Tim and Eric Baron and Jayne and Bo Neill; 33 grandchildren; 94 great grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren; and sister, Rosie Dill and numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul Miranda

Services for Paul Miranda will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Seth Lorenz officiating. Rosary will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brownfield Funeral Home. Paul Miranda passed away on June 23, 2021. He was born on June 18, 1993 in Brownfield to Simon Miranda and Betty Contreras. Paul graduated from Brownfield High school in 2011. He was loved by many. Paul was always trying to make everyone smile and laugh. He was a loving father, son, and brother. Paul is survived by his daughter, Brooklyn Miranda; his parents, Simon Miranda and Betty Contreras; brothers, Victor Miranda, Ricky Martinez; sisters, Ysenia Miranda, Melva Miranda, Melinda Modin; numerous nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Louis Basquez Sr. 84 of Loop, TX. who was born June 21, 1937 in McGregor TX, went to be home with the Lord on Saturday, June 26, 2021. Funeral services will be held Thursday July 1, 2021 at 11am at the Templo Betel Church located at 905 South 5th St. Brownfield TX. Visitation will be held at Grace Funeral and Cremation Care located at 1211 Lubbock Rd. Brownfield, TX Wednesday from 5-8pm. Louis was raised in Flower Grove and met the love of his life Gloria Valadez in Lamesa TX. They soon got married on October 18, 1955 and moved to Loop, TX., where they raised their four sons and daughter. Louis Jr, Ruben, Gilbert, Linda, and David. Louis worked as a farmer for 45 years. He had a very strong faith in God from a young age. With the help of members of the Loop First Baptist church and 2 other brothers in Christ, they started the Loop Spanish Mission. Louis was a deacon and later became a director with the Permian Baptist Association, with churches from Gaines, Yoakum, and Andrews Counties. Every where he went and everyone he met he made sure to share the gospel with them. Louis was preceded in death by his parents Victoria and Manuel Basquez, brothers; Manuel Basquez, Domingo Basquez, sister, Mercedes Quintanilla. Granddaughter Erica Basquez, son in law Aureliano Esquivel, and daughter in law Debbie Basquez. He is survived by wife Gloria Basquez of Loop, TX, 4 sons; Louis Basquez Jr. and wife Esther of Loop, TX Ruben Basquez and wife Consuelo of Loop,TX Gilbert Basquez and wife Sarah of Brownfield, TX. David Basquez of Amarillo,TX. daughter Linda Esquivel of Loop, TX,. 3 brothers; Raymond Basquez, Benito Basquez, Jesse Basquez, all of Levelland, TX sister, Marina Reyes of Loop, TX. 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and a host of extended family and many friends. Pallbearers: Rey Basquez, Gerardo Basquez, Oscar Basquez, Michael Esquivel, Sammy Esquivel, Edward Esquivel.
