Wreck Sends Residents to Hospital

On Sunday, April 4, 19 year old Hunter Acosta drove his 2008 Nissan Altima halfway through the bedroom wall of 604 East Ripley at 5 a.m. The crash caused the two residents to be thrown from the bed across the room, and one had part of the wall collapse on her leg. The two residents were taken to BRMC for injuries. Acosta was arrested on site and is being charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and driving while intoxicated. He is currently out of jail after posting his bond of $52,500.

Terry County continues strong against COVID

With 30,706,531 total COVID-19 infections and 555,002 total deaths in the United States, Terry County is showing a positive sign of controlling and handling the virus. The state of Texas has 2,802,373 total cases as of April 5, according to the Johns Hopkins data received by Brownfield Regional Medical Center clinic director Michael Tackitt. There have been 48,697 deaths and 2,648,420 recovered in the state, putting the mortality rate at 1.7 percent. Currently, Texas hospitals have 13,795 total beds available and 1,107 ICU beds available, but 2,817 confirmed COVID patients hospitalized. According to the Johns Hopkins data 96.65 per 1,000 Texans have contracted the virus.

Houses of Worship may become essential business

State Senator Kelly Hancock of Tarrant County and State Representative Jeff Leach of Collin County filed SJR 27 and HJR 72. The two bills are known as the “Texas Essential Church Act”, which looks to amend the Texas Constitution by making all Texas churches essential businesses.
