The Meadow girls’ basketball team was on the road Saturday morning and returned home with a 35-27 win over Motley County. The game started slow with Meadow (1-1) jumping out to an early 7-2 lead that it never relinquished. The second quarter saw the Lady Broncos hit a hot streak outscoring their opponent 12-6 to go into the half with a 19-8 lead. After the break, both teams found ways to score with Meadow and Motley County scoring 10-10, but the Lady Broncos led 29-18. Meadow dropped the fourth quarter losing 9-6, but it held on to get its first win of the young season.

The Brownfield boys’ basketball opened the 2020-21 season with a home game against Big Springs, Tuesday night in what was also head coach Zayne McPherson first game as the new head coach.

Read moreLast season the Brownfield boys’ basketball team finished the season with a record of 10-21 overall and 6-8 in fourth place in Region 1, District 2-3A. That led to a Bi-District round appearance against Canadian, which the Cubs lost 70-59. That led to a change in coaching staff for the upcoming 2020-21 season with former Brownfield basketball champion Zayne McPherson and his staff of Richard Jackson and Kyle Carroll taking over.

The Bronco runner led the district champs Meadow boys’ cross country team with a 35th place finish at the Class 1A Regional Meet in Mae Simmons Park at Lubbock on Monday. His time at the regional meet was 20 minutes, 13 seconds, and 90 tenths of a second.
Read moreLast season the Brownfield girls’ basketball team was a surprise team finishing the season 29-6 overall, 11-3 in district for third place, making the playoffs, and reaching the regional quarterfinals. That was a 16 game swing from the previous year when the Lady Cubs finished 13-17 overall and 5-10 in district. The Lady Cubs will begin their 2020-21 season at home on Friday against Fort Stockton at 7:30 p.m. Brownfield coach Michelle Wyatt, who is in her sixth season with the team and fourth as the head coach, said this season the team will look to continue to improve.

Wellman-Union Wildcat flag football team ended their regular season with a record of 7-1, winning seven in a row. The WU flag football team had the priviledge of practicing and scrimmaging with their parents on Nov. 1 at Texas Tech’s Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock. According to Jerry Worley, one of the football coaches, the Wellman-Union Wildcat flag football team had a great time.
