The Lady Cubs defeated the Lady Matador’s 65-29 in their first game. The Lady Cubs overcame the rust on the offensive end but showed the defensive awareness and strength that led them to a championship.
Read moreThe Wellman-Union Wildcats and Lady Cats faced O’Donnell at home on Monday. The Lady Cats defeated the Lady Eagles, and the Wildcats took another loss. The Lady Cats dominated the first half. Lady Cat Mady Horton started the game off with a threepoint shot that opened Wellman up to score eight unanswered points—leaving the score at 15-8 at the end of the first quarter. Wellman did not let up and scored 17 points in the second to bring the score to 32-18 at halftime. The Lady Cats came back strong after the break and outscored O’Donnell 11-7, bringing the score to 43-25 at the end of the third quarter. O’Donnell pressed hard in the fourth quarter and put up 20 points to Wellman’s nine, but it was not enough to take away the win from the Lady Cats. Wellman Lady Cats took the win, 52-45. Kenzie Harp led the Lady Cats with 25 points, including two three-pointers, and was seven for eight at the line. Mady Horton followed by contributing ten points to the win, including two three-pointers. Next up for the Lady Cats is a road game on Tuesday against Lorenzo. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.

Read moreThe Brownfield volleyball season ended when the Lady Cubs fell 3-1 to Holliday in the regional semifinal game held at Lubbock Cooper. Brownfield finished the season 33-5 overall and was ranked 9th by the Texas Girls Coaches Association by the end of the year. In their season, the Lady Cubs defended their District 3-3A title t o win back-to-back district titles. They were able to reach the regional semifinal round of the playoffs for consecutive years. Senior players Meriah Gonzalez and Lindsey Herrera, along with head coach Mallorie Ellis spoke on their season.
Read moreThe Wellman-Union boys and girls basketball teams hosted the Turkey Classic from Friday, November 19 to Saturday, September 20. The round-robin tournament had four teams on both sides, with two games on Friday and one on Saturday. Both the Wildcats and Lady’ Cats went into their tournaments to win, and both accomplished the task. The Lady’ Cats won all three games, the Wildcats won two, Hart dropped out, and their Saturday game was canceled. Both Wildcat Coach Kody Bell and Lady’ Cats Coach Landrey Kidd were pleased with their team’s performance and the overall experience of hosting a tournament.

The Lady Broncos jumped to an early 14-5 lead in the first quarter and then dominated the second quarter, 21-3, to lead 35-8 at the half. Meadow continued to dominate the third quarter, holding All-Saints to three points and leading 59-11. All-Saints had their highest-scoring in the fourth quarter with seven, but Meadow doubled that with fourteen, making the final score 73-18 in favor of the Lady Broncos.
