CUBS PLAY AT MOMENTUM BANK BALLPARK

MIDLAND – The Brownfield baseball team fell 9-1 to Midland Greenwood in the first game of the March Classic hosted by Midland Greenwood on Thursday, March 10. After a late night scheduling change the game was held at Momentum Bank Ballpark the home of Double A Minor League team Midland Rockhounds. Head Coach Eric Morin spoke on getting all his players a chance to play in the game on a minor league field.

LADY CUBS SPLIT WEEKEND DOUBLEHEADER

LEVELLAND – The Brownfield softball team played a doubleheader against Tascosa and Levelland on Saturday, March 12th. The Lady Cubs split the doubleheader with a 16-6 win over Tascosa and a 13-11 loss to Levelland. The Lady Cubs return to the diamond on Friday, March 18 at Plainview before starting district play at home against Denver City on Tuesday, March 22nd. Head Coach Loren Phelps spoke on her team’s performance in the doubleheader.

Brownfield Track and Field shows out in Idalou meet

Excitement is brewing around the Brownfield Track and Field team after the Cubs and Lady Cubs performance in Idalou according to the coaching staff. The Cubs track and field team took 5th place overall with 73 points and a total of 6 teams competing. The Lady Cubs track and field team took 2nd place out of a total of 7 teams overall with 136 points collected for their impressive showing in Idalou. The Brownfield Track and Field team competed in the Idalou track meet on Thursday, march 3.

Texas Unemployment rate at a all time low

The Texas unemployment rate is down to new lows! “The Lone Star State continues to set new records for Texans in employment, with January’s total surpassing the record set in December,” said Texas Workforce Commission(TWC) Chairman Bryan Daniel. “Texas has added nearly 700,000 jobs since January 2021 and, while we can’t predict the future, job activity and hiring efforts by Texas employers continues to grow.” In January, Trade, Transportation, and Utilities gained 12,000 jobs over the month. Leisure and Hospitality added 5,700 positions. Also of note, information employment grew by 3,300 jobs. Signifying that businesses are growing and more people are able to earn a living and provide for themselves and their families. When more people work it also means more is getting done that benefits our Texas community. The economy and markets are always unpredictable but it is undoubtedly positive when more Texans are able to work.

On Monday

On Monday, March 14th the intersection of Powell Street and Lubbock Road was blocked to allow a 30-wheel rig carrying an electrical control building for a power plant going from Houston to Arizona. Before the rig could go through the intersection, a convoy of workers following the rig had to move the poles up for safe passage of the electrical control building.
