Elizabeth Ann (Dobyns) Hope

Elizabeth Ann (Dobyns) Hope, 91, of Lubbock (formerly of Brownfield), passed away peacefully on March 4, 2022. She was born on January 30, 1931, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to Richard Lawson Dobyns and Mary Lucile Dobyns. She grew up in Clarksdale, Mississippi, and graduated from Clarksdale High School in 1949. Ann graduated from Baylor University in 1953 with a degree in education and Bible and a minor in music.

Cubs win home opener on walk-off single

The Brownfield baseball team completed a 7-6 comeback win over Coahoma on Monday, March 7th on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh with two outs. The walk-off win was on the Cubs season home opener. The Cubs trailed 6-0 at the top of the second inning. The Cubs scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth with two outs and completed the comeback in the bottom of the seventh with four runs on two outs. Head Coach Eric Morin was pleased with his team’s comeback win.

The Brownfield tennis team

The Brownfield tennis team left for the Texas Tennis Coaches Association Regional tournament the morning of Thursday, March 10. The team met at the tennis courts and received a police escort that went into front of the new high school building where teachers, administration, and students could wave to them and had signs of encouragement. The final stop before beginning the long drive to San Antonio was at Colonial Heights. The players went inside where students were lined up against both walls. They gave the tennis team a rounding applause and high fives them as they came down the hallway to the cafeteria. In the cafeteria, more students were waiting for a chance to cheer the team and continue high fiving them. After the team loaded the bus and began the drive to San Antonio and a first round matchup against Jourdanton on the first day of the tournament.
