The 49th Annual running of the Firecracker Run took place on Wednesday, July 4 in Coleman Park. A beautiful morning with temperatures not too high at start time set the mood for the run.
This year’s race boasted 217 total runners. This was down just a little from last year, but with next year’s race being the 50th, the West Texas Running Club is planning big and expecting big for next year. Plans are already in the works to make next year’s race the best yet.
This year’s race included a Kid’s Fun Run of one mile, a 5K (three mile run) and a 10K (six mile run.) Race organizers stated they had shortened the 10 mile to a 10K due to the extreme heat and humidity we have seen this year.
