The joy of sponsored sports camps

With all the camps coming to an end with the exception of football camp which is set for July, I had a first-hand look at the excitement of the groups of kids enjoying themselves. It doesn’t matter what camp I attended, the kids enjoyed working with the coaches, assistants, and former and current players who helped. These camps are great at teaching kids to love a sport, enjoy working on skills and let them see and experience tips to get better.

BISD updates 2021-2022 school calendar

The Brownfield Board of Trustees met on Thursday with board members Yvonne Rocha, Tim Swaringen, and Cat Gonzalez present along with President Geoff Cooper and Superintendent Chris Smith. Even without a full board present, the board approved changes to the 2021-2022 school calendar.

Brownfield Street and Sanitation working on getting license to spray city

Last summer the City of Brownfield was unable to spray the city to help with the mosquito population due to COVID and not having a licensed operator according to Javier Duran, director of Street and Sanitation. The former Publics Work Director and supervisor were the last two licensed operators in the city, and they retired last year. But this year, Duran is working on getting everything done needed to spray for mosquitoes, including getting more licensed operators.

Commissioners agree to countywide polling place program

In the previous election, Terry County Joint Elections revealed brand new voting machines that were used at Brownfield and Meadow. With the new machines, Terry County Joint Elections Administrator Krystal Valentin went to Commissioners Court and presented the commissioners with the Countywide Polling Place Program. Commissioners voted to apply for the program.

South Plains Implement to re-plat owned land

South Plains Implement representatives Ryan Gentry and Rachel Lewis visited the Commissioner Court on Monday, June 14 to get permission to re-plat their property. The company must ask for a re-plat from the court even if they own the land. The court voted in favor of the re-plat.
