Lady Cubs hand head coach 300th career win

The Brownfield Lady Cubs defeated Littlefield 67-30 to end District 3-3A undefeated at 12-0 and give Head Coach Michelle Wyatt her 300th career win. Gabi Fields led the Lady Cubs in scoring with 21 points, Tia Johnson added 10 points, and Shay’la Blackwell and Deja Johnson both had 9 points. The Lady Cubs go into the Class 3A playoffs as a district champion and will face a fourth place team in the Bi-District round. The University Interscholastic League has set the date for the Bi-District round for February 14 to 15.

Meadow teams fall to Whiteface

The Meadow Lady Broncos and Broncos lost tough fought battles at home Friday night against Whiteface. The Lady Broncos fell short 48-26. Keira Acosta led the team with nine points, followed by J’Leigh Tarin and K’Lynn Tarin with five points each. The final score for the Broncos was 68-46 in favor of Whiteface. The leading scorers for the Broncos were Wes Woodard with 16 points and Taylor Caswell with 10 points. Meadow now looks to face Whitharral on the road on Tuesday.

Cubs drop final home game of district

The Brownfield boys’ basketball team lost to Littlefield 72-54 in its final home game of District 3-3A. The Cubs had three players score in double digit with Devin Hines leading the team with 14 points, Malik Mason had 13 points, and Quavience Busby added 10 points. In a poor showing the Cubs find themselves needing to win one of their next two road games to guarantee a playoff spot and the possibility of sharing the District 3-3A championship. The Cubs travel to Friona on Friday and end their district at Dimmitt on Tuesday February 15. Tip-off for both games is 7:30 p.m.

Western Peanut Growers to Hold 39th Annual Business Meeting February 7th

Western Peanut Growers Association (WPGA) will be holding the 39th annual meeting on Monday, February 7, 2022, beginning at 12:00 noon at the Seminole Community Center (801 N. Main Street), in Seminole, Texas. The meeting will begin with a catered lunch starting at 11:45 a.m. The Business Meeting is expected to start shortly after noon. There will be an election of association directors for four expiring terms. Guest Speaker Dr. Joe Outlaw will be presenting an Economic Outlook for Peanuts and Agriculture, as well as providing an interesting glimpse at the 2022 Crop FSA Program Choices. We think this meetings will be beneficial for all area farmers.
