2022 Annual Art Show

Pictured is The Brownfield Art Association Treasurer Kathy Fowler(left) and Vice President Sharon Picket(right). They are standing next to some of their paintings at the 2022 Annual Art Show. The Brownfield Art Association had the community center filled with art work from association members and more for their annual art show. The annual art show funds scholarships for students who aren’t necessarily majoring in art, but have an interest in it. Painting is more than just a “wonderful hobby,” explained the Brownfield Art Association’s Vice President Sharon Pickett. For the women in the Brownfield’s Art Association art is a therapeutic, cathartic hobby that they are pleased to be able to do “as long as you can hold a paint brush.” The Art Association is always looking for more members. Memberships cost twenty dollars, and once a month the association hosts a presentation on art from an accredited artist or teacher.

Message to pot buyers: Don't Mess With Texas

On April 1, 2022, it became legal for adults to purchase marijuana in New Mexico. Under the new law, anyone 21 and older in the Land of Enchantment can purchase up to two ounces of recreational marijuana. The same, however, is not valid in Texas.

Victory for the seniors

The Lady Cubs once again started slowly on their senior night but found a way to get things rolling. The Lady Cubs were down 0-2 going into the third inning. Out of no where the bats started flying, Brianne Franco had a home run in the third inning to cap the inning off. Ashley Ramirez also had a home run in the bottom of the 6th inning to put a nice finishing touch on her senior night. The Lady Cubs beat Lamesa 7-2.

Comeback Cubs strike again

The Comeback Cubs strike again! The Cubs took AN early 5-3 advantage over Lamesa going into the 2nd inning. Shortly thereafter the game started to slip away from The Cubs. GOING into the 6th inning The Cubs were down 11-5. In the 6th inning they scored 3 runs to bring the game to 11-8. Going into the 7th inning the Cubs defense held strong and got help form close out pitcher Ivan Deleon. In the bottom of the 7th inning with the Cubs at bat for the final time the score was 11-8. The bases were loaded with no outs when Adriano Mireles stole home making the score 11-9 WITH two runners on base. Brandon Anthony brought in an RBI to make it 11-10, the next batter Juan Najara was hit with the ball and walked. The score is 11-10 with 1 out, JJ Martinez brings in an RBI to make the score 11-11. Ivan Deleon came to the plate and crushed a single to right field to win the game in the bottom of the 7th 12-11 and have yet another comeback win at home.

Cubs and Lady Cubs advance to Regionals

The Cubs and Lady Cubs had a very good showing on Thursday, April 21 at the Area track meet in Denver City. The Cubs advanced in 1 field events and 3 running events. The Lady Cubs had a very good day as well, The Lady Cubs advanced in 8 event total, 2 of them were field events.
