Barbara “Bobbie” Ann Wood

Barbara “Bobbie” Ann Wood, 84, of Brownfield passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. Barbara was born on June 4, 1937, in Middletown, Connecticut, to John J. Pomfret and Gladys Pearl Pomfret. She moved to Brownfield in 1996 and married Leldon N. Wood on June 8, 2009. He passed away in 2011.

Johnny Roe, 61 our beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather passed away on May 8, 2022 at his home in Brownfield. He was born June 11, 1960 to John and Katy Roe in Amarillo. Johnny graduated from Pampa High school and then received his Bachelor’s degree from Kilgore College. Johnny has worked for Halliburton for the last 15 years. He was a hardworking man. Johnny loved his motorcycle and enjoyed the outdoors. He is preceded in death by his father, John Roe.

Marietta Cleon Sooter

Marietta Cleon Sooter, 73, of Lubbock was born August 5th, 1948 in Brownfield, Texas to Oliver and Estelle (McNiel) Miller. She graduated from Brownfield High school in 1966 and moved to first Levelland and then Lubbock to attend both South Plains College and then Texas Tech to further her education. She married Phil Sooter September 1st, 1972 in Lubbock and they were married for almost 50 years. From 1974 to 1984 she and her husband Phil owned and operated Varsity Cleaners on University Avenue. She worked most of her life as a bookkeeper and retired in the mid 2000’s to manage her family’s farms. Marietta enjoyed gardening, dancing and Elvis.

Meriah Gonzalez has committed to sign to attend McMurry University

Meriah Gonzalez has committed to sign to attend McMurry University to continue her track career and most importantly her education. Gonzalez was an important part of the track team this year where she competed in 5 events. She made it to regionals in the 4x200 M Relay, 200 M Dash, Triple Jump, Long Jump, and the 4x400 M relay. Gonzalez on the hard work and feeling of being able to sign to continue her career, “It feels amazing it was a lot of hard work to get where I am now. The coaches are amazing, they really pushed me to be better. It just feels like a big accomplishment.” Congratulations to Brownfield High’s Meriah Gonzalez and her family on reaching such a great milestone and Brownfield News and Brownfield Online wish Gonzalez the best of luck.

Following the servicea catered lunch by Danny’s Catering will be served at the Meadow Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Donations for the cost of the meal are appreciated.
