Brownfield ISD has hired a new Assistant Principal

Brownfield ISD has hired a new Assistant Principal at the middle school, Philip Garza. Superintendent Chris Smith says that he’s “excited for Mr. Garza to join the team.” Mr. Garza previously was working at Slaton ISD. Chris Smith explained that Mr. Garza has experience building relationships with students and experience with working with “special populations.” Chris Smith is confident the Mr. Garza will “bring a lot to the community.”

Meadow ISD is proud to announce Dee Anne Bentancourt

Meadow ISD is proud to announce Dee Anne Bentancourt as the new Principal of Burleson Elementary School. Mrs. Bentancourt has worked in education for the past 19 years, serving as a teacher and administrator for Idalou ISD, Spur ISD, and Anton ISD. Beforecoming to Meadow ISD, Bentancourt worked as the Elementary Principal in Anton ISD forfive years. Mrs. Bentancourt graduated from Texas Tech University in 1997 with a Bachelor ofScience degree in Agriculture Communications. She obtained her Master’s Degree inAgricultural Education from Texas A&M in 1999. Mrs. Bentancourt received her Master’sDegree in Educational Administration from Lubbock Christian University in 2012. Superintendent Bric Turner said, “We are pleased to add Dee Anne Bentancourt to our administrative staff as the new Principal of Burleson Elementary. She has excellent academic credentials as well as experience coordinating outstanding UIL academic teams.Her experience in and love of small schools will inspire the students and teachers of-Burleson Elementary.”

Meadow ISD is proud to announce Jason Atcheson

Meadow ISD is proud to announce Jason Atcheson as the new Principal of Meadow Secondary School. Mr. Atcheson has worked in education for the past 20 years, serving as a teacher, coach, and administrator for Ralls ISD, China Spring ISD, Muenster ISD, and Lubbock Cooper ISD. Before coming to Meadow ISD, Atcheson worked as an Assistant Principal at Lubbock Cooper Middle and High Schools in Cooper ISD for eight years. Mr. Atcheson graduated from Texas Tech University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. He then obtained his Master’s Degree in Education Administration from The University of Texas in Arlington in 2014. Superintendent Bric Turner said, “Having a strong Secondary School Principal is a critically important position as we move forward. We feel fortunate to have Mr. Atcheson joining us as our next Secondary School Principal. He brings outstanding experiences to this position; you will find his leadership and passion for students and staff contagious."

20th Annual Great American Cook-off began this weekend in Coleman Park . A competitor from the Amarillo area was seen setting up his smoker on Friday in preparation for the annual cook-off hosted by Knights of Columbus. Cooking began on Friday with juding held on Saturday for several categories.

Covid-19 Today

The Covid-19 pandemic left hospitals scrambling and at capacity. In 2022 the pressure of Covid has subsided substantially, but recently in Terry County the numbers have begun to creep up slightly. According to the latest CDC report there are about 2 cases of Covid in Terry County per week. While the numbers are rising only slightly, they bring flashbacks of a time when they were rising rapidly, and when many Americans were stuck in their homes wondering what to believe and when everything would return to normal.
