Baseball All-District

The Cubs capped off a baseball season with multiple surprises and with 5 all district players. The Brownfield Cubs baseball team led by head coach Eric Morin surprised more people than expected. Although the Cubs had a slow start to the season and troubles with pitching at the beginning of the year. The season did not end with the same troubles it started with because the pitching improved, batting improved and outfield play improved. The team finished second in the district with a record of 12-18 and a district record of 4-2. With this in mind the team was relatively young and only had 2 seniors on it. The junior-heavy Cubs would go on to best Alpine 2 out of 3 game series and would advance to the second round. In the second round the Cubs faced Shallowater where the team for the first four innings of each game made things interesting. The Cubs would fall to shallower and end their season in the second round. Looking forward, the Cubs are now more experienced with lots of talent on the horizon. The Cubs graduated only 2 seniors last year one of them being Zarius Garcia. Garcia who was All District 1st Team 2nd Basemen is the team’s only all district player who will not return next year. 4 out of 5 all district players will return to the diamond for coach Morin. Coach Morin will also be fully loaded with 11 seniors to kick off next baseball season.

With the team being so young they are naturally playing teams that are older than them when they play on the varsity level. Being young hasn’t stopped the Cubs summer team, The Cubs continued to put up runs on Seagraves.
