The Brownfield boys’ basketball team returned to the hardwood after Christmas break with a road trip to Class 5A Randall. The Cubs went to Randall on a five game winning streak and looked to continue their winning streak. The Cubs went up to Canyon but fell 85-41 to the Raiders.

With many of those games being the second or third game of the season for the teams selected to play on Christmas, I hope that many young basketball players enjoyed watching those games.
Read moreThe Brownfield girls’ basketball team played the back end of a back to back at home against Snyder on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Cubs defeated Muleshoe on Monday and looked to win their second back to back game in a non district matchup with the Lady Tigers. After a quick four quarters the Lady Cubs gave their fans an early Christmas gift of a 62-47 win their 12th win of the season and fourth in a row.

She followed that with a 12 point, six rebounds, two steals, and three assists against Muleshoe. In the non district game against Snyder, she had an eight point, five boards, and an assist in the win.
Read moreMULESHOE — The Brownfield boys’ basketball team opened District 3-3A with a win over Friona on Friday night, and looked to remain as one of the unbeaten teams when the Cubs visited Muleshoe on Monday night. In what began as a close game, the Cubs were able to build separation from the Mules and earn a 65-46 road win to improve to 2-0 in district. As of this report, the Cubs are one of four teams unbeaten in their district.
Read moreMULESHOE — The Brownfield girls’ basketball team had three District 3-3A games scheduled for the month of December. The Lady Cubs defeated Dimmitt in their district home opener and followed that up with another home win over Friona, and Monday’s game was the first road game for Brownfield in district. Brownfield made an hour and half trip to face the Lady Mules of Muleshoe, in a battle of two undefeated district opponents. After the final buzzer the Lady Cubs left their opponents court with a 58-20 win and a 3-0 district record which places them in a tie with Littlefield for first place.
Read moreThe Meadow girls’ basketball team hosted Kress on Friday night in its final home game of the year. The Lady Broncos (5-9) lost 59-35 after a slow start to the game. The Lady Broncos found themselves trailing by 11 points after one quarter of play, 16-5, and had a better offensive quarter in the second but were trailing by double digits at halftime, 30-14. After the break, the Lady Broncos came out looking to score and put up 12 points in the quarter, the most all game, but on the defensive end, they allowed Kress to outscore them with 14 points. Meadow went into the fourth trailing 44-26 and looked to make a late-game rally. Yet Kress’s defense held the home team to only nine points and secured the road win.

The Broncos were coming off a home win earlier in the week and looked to go into the Christmas break on a two-game winning streak. Instead, the Kangaroos defeated the Wildcats 45-37 in a close game. Kress jumped out to an early two-point lead on Meadow at the end of the first, 11-9. The second quarter played similar to the first with the Broncos struggling to win the quarter and went into the half trailing 23-18. The Kangaroos were able to build a lead in the third when they held the Broncos to only four points and led 34-22 going into the fourth. In the final quarter, the Broncos went for a final rally and won the quarter 15-11 but came up short in the final score.
