Read moreJust before 10:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2 a call came in to the Brownfield Police Dept. dispatch that there had been a vehicle accident in the 500 block of West Main Street. According to police reports, Carlos Arturo Cayete- Ramirez was traveling west on West Main Street in a 2006 black four door Nissan Titan when he veered to the right and struck the My Little Playhouse Learning Center bus/van in the 500 block of West Main. As the Nissan continued it pushed the bus/van into one of the pillars of the Triple D Winery & Restaurant.

In a special called Brownfield ISD Board meeting on Tuesday, the trustees met in person for the first time in about two months and learned about the possibility of purchasing new computers, iPads, and etc. for all grade levels. Because of the shut down of all schools in Texas due to the coronavirus, BISD learned during that time that the district needed some major technology upgrades.
Read moreThe Brownfield high school baseball and softball squads took to the diamonds on Friday night, May 1 to celebrate the seniors on those teams. With social distancing guidelines in place the baseball and softball teams did not get into any real action due to the coronavirus that halted all UIL sponsored events. The Lady Cubs got to see a tourney, a few non-district and two district games, leaving them with a 1-1 record. The Cubs however only got to see three games and they went 1-2. This has been an unprecedented time for all sports related events across the nation.

Although this was anticipated, it has become concerning for the state budget and local government budgets. According to State Comptroller Glen Hegar the 9.3% decline is the sharpest since 2010.

The red line is the route beginning at Cub Stadium and ending at the pool. The blue stars represent BISD faculty and staff at that respective campus, and the yellow stars represent where the families of the seniors will be located.
