Economy Looks To Rebound After A Hard Couple of Months

Americans and economists were more than a little shocked Friday, June 5 when the new unemployment numbers were released. In April, the unemployment rate soared to a high of 14.7%, something that had not been seen since the Great Depression. However, the May unemployment rate dropped more than 1% to 13.3%. There were over 2.5 million jobs added to the economy in the month of May amid the coronavirus pandemic which has caused the economy to fail the past three months.

Amid COVID-19, Texas Schools Begin Summer Strength and Conditioning

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) took an unprecedented step in mid-March when they decided to cancel all UIL sporting and academic events. Not only did they cancel their sponsored events, they also along with the Texas Education Agency canceled all workouts. Finally with Texas Governor Greg Abbott lifting many restrictions, public schools can now offer workouts for student athletes.

Commissioners Approve A New Plat Of Land

The Terry County Commissioners Court met on Monday to discuss and take action on a few items. After the preliminary items, the court began with item 4 which was to approve a plat of 95 acres is in the northwest quarter of section 112, block T and is to be known as the Hogue Addition to Terry County. This location goes from the corner of Bridges St. and TX HWY 137 and extends northeast. Each plat will range from two acres to five acres. According to Brent Hogue, the primary developer, there will be some roads that have cul de-sacs. The application for plat approval shows that there will be 48 lots within the 95 acres and they will be offered for residential and commercial use. The court unanimously approved the application.

Peter and Liz Anderson of Brownfield announce the engagement of their daughter Hannah to Daniel Lode of Billings, Montana. Hannah is a 2007 graduate of BHS, Lubbock Christian University, and the Denver Art Institute. She is employed as a graphic designer for Montana Silversmiths. Daniel is self employed. The couple will be married August 1, 2020 in Butte, MT and will make their home in Billings, MT.
