Terry County clerk introduces new online records and eRecording

Terry County Clerk Kim Carter introduced to the commissioners, the new records online and property records and the eRecording CSC memorandum of understanding. Neither of the two agenda items required a vote, but in the future, the eRecording will, once they give a contract to the county on their services.

DPS warns driver license waiver ending in April

The Department of Public Safety has officially issued a 60 day notice related to the COVID waiver signed by Governor Greg Abbott on March 2020. The waiver applied to driver license, commercial license, learner permits, ID cards, and election identification certificates that expired on or after March 13, 2020. The waiver granted to Texans who fell in that category an extended period of time to get their renewal done safely during the early stages of the pandemic. DPS has now given anyone who has not gotten their renewal done until April 14, 2021.

Final filings see two elections in Terry general election

When the clock struck 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12 the filing for the general election to be held on May 1 ended, but write-ins had until Tuesday, Feb 16, with all the incumbents and challengers’ names on the ballots. This general election there will be two elections for City of Brownfield District 5 and Meadow ISD. Incumbent city councilman Eric Horton will face off against challenger Julian Silva Hernandez for District 5. Meadow ISD board of trustees incumbents Jody Woodard, Ruben Villalpando, and Daniel Harrington will face off against challenger Chris Castilleja for one of three at large seats.

MEADOW DEFEATS DAWSON TO MAKE PLAYOFFS

The Meadow Broncos basketball team needed to win Friday night on the road over Loop and get help from Terry County rival Wellman-Union to make the Class 1A playoffs. The game, scheduled to be played at 6 p.m., was moved to 5 p.m. due to snow, did not hurt Meadow. The Broncos went on to defeat Loop 64-33 and with Wellman-Union defeating Whiteface, the Broncos sealed third place in District 7-1A to make the playoffs.

WELLMAN UNION FINISH AS RUNNER UP IN DISTRICT

The Wellman Union Wildcats hosted Whiteface knowing a win would secure the runner up spot and help Terry County rival Meadow finish in third place. The Wildcats were able to hold off Whiteface and get a 70-56 win.
