Brownfield’s Abcde Garcia finished her high school softball career at the 13th annual Greater West Texas Softball Coaches Association All Star game on Friday, June 11. Garcia played on the Class 1A-3A West All Star team at Peoples Bank Softball Stadium at Frenship High.

The Jalene Young Piano Studio

The Jalene Young Piano Studio held its annual awards recital on Sunday, May 30 at Calvary Baptist Church. Jonah Campa- Peters was awarded the Top Student award at the recital. In the Whitlock Theory Test the top three winners were Kyla Wiebe who won the Gold with a score of 100, Jessie McElwee won Silver with a 98, and Haylee Crutchfield won Bronze with a 93.

City Council votes to NOT open Brownfield Family Aquatic Center

In a special meeting, the Brownfield City Council came to the decision to not open the Family Aquatic Center this summer. City Manager Jeff Davis, Parks and Recreation Director Scott Jackson, and Water Director James Nix all recommended to the city council to not open the pool this summer and instead, work on getting it fixed for next year. The council voted to close the aquatic center, bring in engineers, and have the pool properly fixed for next year.

City Council members clean up the city

On Tuesday, June 8, Mayor Tom Hesse and city council members went out and did some cleaning around city hall. They used weed whackers to cut down weeds on the sidewalks and cut long blades of grass, and afterwards picked up the trash and placed them in garbage bags.

Fields Awarded TABC Class 3A Player of the Year

On Wednesday, June 9 Brownfield basketball player Gabi Fields was awarded a plaque from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches as the Class 3A Player of the Year. Fields helped the Lady Cubs in winning the programs first outright District 3-3A championship with a 12-0 record. Her free throws at the end of the game led the Lady Cubs to a close victory over Idalou in the Area Round of playoffs. She helped the Lady Cubs in forcing overtime and defeating Fairfield in the Class 3A state championship game to secure Brownfield’s second girls’ state title.
