Boot Camp

In my last post, I said we would talk about boot camp because I made the comment that it would be nice if every believer had to go through some kind of special training before sending them out into the world. Most of our Christian walk is about conforming to the image of Christ while operating in a world that is ruled by the devil "... the commander of the powers in the unseen world. Terry County unemployment falls in July

The Texas Workforce Commission released the unemployment figures for the month of July showing a drop in the state. In July, the unemployment rate fell to 6.2 percent which is a 0.3 percent decrease from June. The TWC data shows the state added 80,900 total nonagricultural jobs, which has seen 714,800 jobs since July 2020. In Terry County, the Texas Labor Market Information and Workforce Solutions South Plains shows unemployment dropped to 6.5 percent from 7.4 in June. Unemployment this month is 306, the civilian labor force is 4,685, and the employment is 4,379.

Commissioners review proposed tax rate, budget

When the Commissioner’s Court met at the beginning of the month they were presented with a proposed tax rate and budget for the upcoming year by Judge J.D. Wagner. The court was shown what the proposed tax rate is and how it was devised and the proposed budget showing the revenue and expenditure summary.

City employees protest change to dependent care insurance

The Brownfield City Council met Thursday morning to an unusually packed building, some attendees stood in the hallway. Those in attendance are current city employees ranging from the fire department to the police department, and the many utility divisions such as electrical and water. The workers came out to support each other as the Council’s agenda included the Texas Municipal League intergovernmental employee benefits pool regarding the city health insurance program. Ten people signed up to comment on the agenda item.

Smith hopes BISD Events hope to bring a sense of normalcy to 2021-2022 school year

As students, parents, and teachers prepare to begin the first day of the 2021-2022 school year tomorrow, Brownfield Superintendent Chris Smith discussed the events leading up to the day and what to expect this year. This school year will be much different for everyone involved as it is a return to normalcy after doing virtual school last year due to COVID, but there will be some significant changes as middle school students will be attending their new campus and high school students will attend a temporary campus until the new high school’s construction is completed.
