It was one of the worst school shootings in history

It was one of the worst school shootings in history . On May 24, 2022 that terrible event took place in Uvalde Texas and left 19 children and 2 teachers dead. The Uvalde school board delayed the start of the school year to Sept. 6, giving families and the district more time to prepare following the tragedy. With so much tension in the air for Uvalde, Brownfield students along with other students at schools across Texas wore maroon and white on Tuesday in support of Uvalde to show the school district that they aren’t alone in this time of need. The Brownfield News went out to the Brownfield Middle School to speak to Principle Artemio Ontiveros, “Uvalde started school on Tuesday after the tragedy that happened last year and we along with Texas wanted to show some support for the people in Uvalde. It’s always good to showcase that our kids are caring kids. You know they care about these things. We as a district have been improving on our security measures so we don’t have those tragedies and our kids know that and are responding well and I am really proud of how many people wore maroon and showed their support for Uvalde”. To show support for the return of Uvalde students and staff, several school districts all across Texas posted on social media, asking their students and staff to wear maroon and white. Principle Ontiveros added, “Brownfield ISD took to social media and just encouraged us and the students in all campuses to wear maroon to support the community of Uvalde”.
