Karl Francis

Services for Karl Francis Spuhler, 84, of Wellman will be held at 11 am on January 29, 2022, at Abundant Harvest Community Church with Jerald Baldwin officiating. Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Abundant Harvest Community Church. Karl was born on August 12, 1937, to Harold and Fay Spuhler in Amarillo. He graduated from Lubbock High School and Texas Tech University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in engineering. He was the mayor of Wellman for over ten years and enjoyed the position. His primary focus for Wellman as mayor was the water supply. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, reloading ammunition, camping, golfing, and loved his dog. Karl is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Fay Spuhler. He is survived by his wife, Carma Spuhler; children, Mark Spuhler and future wife Karen, Monica Earnhart and husband Russ, Rebecca Spurgin and husband Travis, Brent Tankersley, Brad Tankersley, Bill Tankersley, and Shannon Wilson, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

WILDCATS SUFFER DISTRICT LOSS

The Wellman-Union Wildcats lost a close one at home on Tuesday, falling 43-38 to the Loop Longhorns. The leading scorer for the Wildcats was Tobi Depoyster with 11 points. After the district loss the Wildcats will now prepare to host the Whiteface Antelopes on Friday.

The Brownfield Lady Cubs eased past Denver City with a score of 87-17. The Lady Cubs came out fast and never slowed down, they continued to push the tempo until the final minutes of the game. Gabi Fields led the team in scoring with 21 points and 5 steals.

BROWNFIELD CUBS SUFFER FIRST DISTRICT LOSS TO MUSTANGS

The Brownfield Cubs fell short to the Denver City Mustangs by a score of 55-41. The Cubs kept the game close until the midway point of the 4th quarter, Devin Hines led the team in scoring with 17 points.
