Vi passed away February 3,2024 at Lakeside Rehab in Lubbock, TX after a lengthy illness. She was born March 18, 1940, to Volney Almus and Hazel Hamby in Hooker, OK.

Vi moved to Brownfield in 1972 after completing cosmetology licensing where she became a long-time beautician. She married Jacky Bench in 1976 adding hard working farmer’s wife to her resume. She was also a successful entrepreneur opening several businesses over the years.

Vi’s greatest joy was her family. She loved to cook huge meals to celebrate holidays, birthdays and any other excuse to bring family & friends together. Vi was a very caring person helping everyone she met in any way she could, including any and all stray animals.

She will be greatly missed by those she left to cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her two infant sons James Jr. and Billy ,her husband Jacky G Bench, brother V.A. “Sparky” Hamby and sister Patricia Ewalt.

Vi is survived by her daughters Leana Collins Jarvis of Brownfield, Donna Lynn Dohm of Lubbock, a son Troy Dohm of Brownfield, two grandkids Mathew and wife Heather Dohm of Lubbock and Jeremy Dohm of Brownfield, and four great grandchildren.

Her family would like to thank Vi’s “other daughter” Kim Pearce and the staff of Lakeside Rehab for the loving care they provided in her time of need.
