Norma Jean Helbig Richins, 94, of Cloudcroft, NM and long-time resident of Hidalgo County passed away peacefully Monday, October 31, 2022.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:30 am, Friday November 11 at Cloudcroft United Methodist Church in Cloudcroft, NM. Graveside services will be held 11:30 am, Saturday November 12 at Mountain View Cemetery in Lordsburg, NM.

Norma Jean Helbig Richins was born in Lordsburg, NM, February 15, 1928 to William H. and Lillie Mae Hanner Helbig. Norma met her husband Clyde Lavern Richins while she was working at the ASCS Office in Lordsburg, NM. They married on July 7, 1957 and together they raised two boys, farmed and worked at the Ponderosa and Richins Brothers, Inc. near Cotton City, NM.

Norma Jean is survived by her two sons, Wesley (Janet) Richins of Las Cruces, NM and Donald (Mary) Richins of Cloudcroft, NM; 7 grandchildren & 5 great-grandchildren: David and Destiny Richins, children Tyler and Sierra of Lubbock, TX; Nathan and Katy Parrish, daughter Rylee of Amarillo, TX; Clay Richins of Pasadena, TX; Sean Richins of Las Cruces; Evan and Laura Richins, children Joshua and Wyatt of Las Cruces; Alec Richins of Las Cruces; and Levi Richins of Las Cruces.

Norma Jean is preceded in death by her parents; son, David Wayne Richins; husband Clyde L. Richins; brother William H. (Bill) Helbig, Jr.; and sister-in-law Margaret Helbig.

Norma was an active member of the United Methodist Church everywhere she lived. She was an active member and past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, active in New Mexico state politics with her husband Clyde, and served two terms as Probate Judge of Hidalgo County, NM.

She lived a long life, enjoying music and singing, eating out, traveling, shopping, current news events and a good debate.
