January 21, 1926 - December 29, 2018

Mrs. Jean Birdsong Mackey, 92 years of age, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 in Brownfield. She was born to Bob and Clara Birdsong on Thursday, January 21, 1926 in Lubbock. Jean graduated from Frenship High School in Wolfforth, Texas. Jean married the love of her life - Loyd Charles Mackey on March 28, 1948 in Lubbock, and from this union, they had two children. They moved from Sweetwater to Brownfield in 1962, where they lived ever since. Jean and her husband Loyd, worked at and managed Mackey’s 7-11, a family business they owned and operated for 28 years, from 1962 - 1990 in Brownfield. Jean was a homemaker and a lifetime member of Jehovah’s Witness from the Brownfield Kingdom Hall Congregation. Her favorite pastimes included writing poetry, attending Kingdom Hall services, reading, gardening, preaching work and spending quality time with her friends and family. Mrs. Mackey is preceded in death by her parents - Bob and Clara Haymes Birdsong, spouse of 51 years - Loyd Charles Mackey who passed on January 30, 2000, her daughter - Connie Mackey Moore who passed on October 3, 2013 and a brother - Bob Birdsong. She is survived by her son Phillip and spouse Laura Mackey of Brownfield, Grandchildren - Brooke Borchardt, Leslie Quintanilla, Stormy Matney, Lindy Lee, Sherry Karr, Tara Zysko, Rhett Green and Garrett Green, 14 Great-Grandchildren and one Great-Great-Grandchild. Services were held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Lubbock. Elder Gary Deatherage officiated. Services were under the direction of Duarte Funeral Home of Levelland.
