Elva Guerra Lara

October 2, 1959 - September 1, 2022

Elva Guerra Lara 62, of Lubbock passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022. A visitation will be held Thursday September 8, 2022 5-8 p.m. at Grace Funeral Care 1211 Lubbock Road in Brownfield. A celebration of life will take place Friday September 9, 2022 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in the Brownfield Cemetery. She was born October 2, 1959, in Karnes City, Texas to Eva Contreras and Elias Guerra. But grew up in Brownfield where she became an avid Cubs fan. Elva moved her family to Lubbock where she delved into the medical field of nursing. Taking care of people was her love and passion. Elva retired from the medical field after 20 plus years. But that still didn’t stop her from taking care of the needs and wants of others. She was sought out for her homemade tortillas and homemade chilli, better known as her “chillaso.” From time to time, people would call her and order jars of her chilli. Elva loved to cook, she cooked, grilled, baked, she did it all.

Her food was never a “pass up”. Especially during the holidays…holiday cooking was the best!! If you knew her, you know this to be true!

During her free time, Elva loved to sit and watch The Price is Right and The Young and the Restless, she really enjoyed her soaps! She too was a big fan of horror movies. If it didn’t scare her, then the movie wasn’t any good. That’s a critic for you, right!

Elva loved her Donny Osmond! There was not a day that she didn’t play his songs or even sing them to you. Elva couldn’t get enough of her grandkids, they all were her joy, light and comfort. Though Elva had heart problems, she still had a heart of gold. She would give her last to others even if it meant that she went without. She was a selfless person who put others’ needs before her own. She was also known for being outspoken and courageous. Elva was diagnosed with heart failure but that didn’t keep her from living life to the fullest, she fought to the very end.

She was preceded in death by her first born son; Anthony Guerra Lara lll, her father; Elias Guerra, her mother; Eva Contreras, her sister; Patricia Ann Gutierrez.

She is survived by her children; Amanda Hernandez, Mark Lara, Erik Lara, Craig Lara, Andrew Lara, Heather Lara, Tammy Lara, Toni Lara, her siblings; Annette Olivas, Rick Guerra, Carlos Gutierrez and Joe L. Gutierrez. She also has 22 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
