Graveside services for Dianne Lavon Fitzgerald, 69, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Plains Cemetery with Ray Hill officiating, under the care of Brownfield Funeral Home. Dianne passed away Friday, March 25, 2022, in Lubbock. She was born on June 4, 1952 to Johnnie and Melba Fitzgerald. She grew up loving all things to do with the ranch life. Dianne attended school at Plains ISD where she was involved in many activities. She was a cheerleader and volleyball player earning All-State honors 4 years in high school. After graduating, Dianne attended South Plains College and then transferred to Texas Tech University where she played for the Lady Raider Team. After graduating from Tech, she took a coaching position at Midland. She had a career change a few years later and went to Barber school and eventually opened her own shop. Dianne loved cutting hair, but after several years she sold her shop and returned to teaching at Plainview where she was voted teacher of the week many times. Her favorite pals were her dogs Cisco and Cowgirl. She loved adventure and researching the Old West. She had a spirited humorous personality, and everyone loved being around her because she was entertaining and fun. She was preceded in death by her father, Johnnie L. Fitzgerald, her sister, Lynne Fitzgerald Winn, and her niece, Haley Helms. Dianne is survived by her mother, Melba Fitzgerald; sisters Gwen Helms and husband Clay, and Johna DeBusk and husband Tim; brother-in-law, Tony Winn; nieces and nephews, Ashlee Davis and husband, Micheal, Ladd Winn and wife, April, Shyloh Winfield and husband, Shane, Sunny Shipley and husband, Jordan, Hunter Helms and wife, Blaire, Dru Ammons and husband, Andrew, Dylan, Dray and Dantz DeBusk; and 14 great nieces and nephews. Memorial donations can be made to United Methodist Church of Plains and the Haley Helms Memorial Scholarship Fund at Rotan ISD.
