BOB SIMPSON

MAY 9, 1941 - FEBRUARY 6, 2023

On February 6, 2023, Bob Simpson, 81, of Midland passed away suddenly on the 16th hole while playing one of the best rounds of golf of his life on a beautiful afternoon with a dear friend.

Bob was born May 9, 1941, in Levelland, Texas, as one of four children to RL and Modena Simpson. He was a proud graduate of the University of Texas, class of 1965, with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Following graduation, Bob returned to Brownfield to work for Nelson Pharmacy. On July 14, 1978, Bob married Sherry Huddleston. They were each blessed with a son, Andy and Billy, in prior marriages and together welcomed their daughter, Kasey, to complete their family. Bob later went on to own Nelson Pharmacy with various partners in order to continue serving his community for over 50 years.

Bob truly loved people. He dedicated his life to serving and helping people in his community, both in Brownfield and Midland. While in Brownfield, he served on the school, hospital, and optimist boards. He was a Mason and served as Mayor for four years. After moving to Midland, Bob worked in the pharmacy at Manor Park, continuing to serve and brighten the days of those around him.

Bob was always an avid supporter of youth activities and was always volunteering to coach his kids’and grandkids’sports teams. Most recently, he volunteered at Hillcrest School as a golf coach. He was always in the stands supporting his grandkids and their teammates. All of the Hillcrest Eagles knew Bob would be there cheering them on. He encouraged kids to face their challenges and pursue their dreams.

Bob enjoyed many special friendships during his life and had a knack for making people around him feel special. He was always up for a game of golf or putting together a jigsaw puzzle. Bob loved to travel and went on many adventures over the years with Sherry and his family.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, RL and Modena Simpson, and his brother, Doyle Simpson. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sherry; brother Doug Simpson and wife Jannette of Denison, Texas; sister Sandi Buck of Texhoma, Texas; son Andy Simpson and husband Alex of Austin, Texas; son Billy Collum of West, Texas; daughter Kasey Claxton and husband Ryan of Midland, Texas; two grandchildren: Brice and Jace Claxton; and numerous beloved family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, February 11, 2023, at First Christian Church of Brownfield.
