Of the three Terry County football squads, Wellman-Union is likely the hungriest about getting back on the field after a tough 2019 season that saw them end the second to last game after the first quarter against Morton and forfeit their last game against Ropes. Coach Brian Sepkowitz (Sep) is in his second year at the helm of the Wellman-Union Wildcat football team and he wants his Wildcats, win or lose, to understand that this first game won’t define the rest of the season.

Not only will that be new for the team, so will their coach. This will be Coach Josh Conner’s debut as the new head football coach for the Broncos. The head coaching change was made amid the coronavirus shut down earlier in the year when Coach Steven Gray left for Sudan to take an assistant coaching job. This will be the fifth year in row that the Broncos first game of the season will be with a new coach.

Tia Johnson had 10 kills, followed by Brianna Franco with 6. Madison Hord had 15 digs, and Gabi Fields had 24 assists.The Lady Cubs travel to Shallowater to take on River Road and Shallowater today (Saturday). The games begin at 10 a.m.

County schools, Brownfield, Wellman-Union and Meadow started bright and early Monday morning with cross country, football, volleyball and fall tennis. Two-a-days will continue for all districts until the start of school.
