The Brownfield City Council held an emergency meeting on Thursday, March 25 to discuss the impact Winter Storm Uri had on the city, especially its electricity demand. Uri hit the town and the state from Feb. 12 -19, which brought snow, ice, blackouts, frozen pipes, and even more damages. After the storm, the state’s electrical grid, ERCOT, came under scrutiny for not providing power to the residents and after the storm for the huge amount it charged residents who had power during the storm.

They also offered the first dose of the vaccine. There was a long line that went around the Brownfield Fire and Police Department. South Plains Public Health District offered both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccine.
Read moreThe Meadow ISD had originally planned to meet on Monday, March 22 after Spring Break to decide on what or if any changes would be made to their mask policy. This stems from Gov. Abbott announcing his Executive Order GA-34, where he lifted the mask policy and opened the state to 100 percent.
Read moreWe have implemented a plan to start visitation for the public and the inmates. We have set up a plan to have visitation on scheduled days and scheduled times for each individual pod. We have also set up a 20- minute timeframe between visitations, where jail staff is able to have sufficient time to disinfect the area. We have this plan in place to help limit the number of people allowed at one time. We have shut down phones in-between each other to allow the 6 feet of social distancing.
Read moreAfter holding the last Board of Trustees meeting via Zoom due to the winter storms, the Brownfield ISD meeting was held in person on Monday, March 22. The Board canceled the elections for the two at-large seats as incumbents Will Hawkins and Cat Gonzalez ran unopposed. After the Board voted unanimously to certify the two incumbents, the meeting turned to next year and dealing with what remains for the new high school and the middle school.
