Historic win for Brownfield tennis

After defeating Seminole last Saturday and then defeating Lamesa the Brownfield tennis team clinched the District 4-4A championship. This is not the first 4A district title won by Brownfield Head Coach Rich Hammons and his team, but it is the first they have won as an invited 3A school playing in Class 4A. The team has been playing in Class 4A in the fall for the past four years, after receiving permission from both the University Interscholastic League and Texas Tennis Coaches Association. Last year, Brownfield played in the playoffs for the first time as the No. 3 seed from the district, but this year the Lady Cubs and Cubs will go in as the top seed of District 4-4A. Brownfield has not been playing 4A tennis in the fall for many years according to head coach Rich Hammons.
