Jesus “Chuy” Garcia

Services for Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, 81, of Brownfield were held at 10 a.m. November 23, 2021 at Brownfield Funeral Home Chapel. Prayer service was held from 6-8 p.m. on November 22, 2021at Brownfield Funeral Home. Chuy passed away peacefully in his home on November 19, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones. Chuy was born to Cruz and Francisca Garcia on June 10, 1940 in Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico. On February 6, 1968 he married the love of his life, Socorro (Soco) Garcia. Together they had four children. Chuy loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed woodworking, painting and being outdoors. He loved boxing and making his friends and family laugh. Chuy is preceded in death by his parents, Cruz and Francisca Garcia; granddaughter, Victoria Lynn Leivas and a great grandson, Josiah Joel Garcia. Chuy is survived by his wife, Socorro Garcia; children, Jose Garcia and wife Irma of Plainview, Isabel Garcia of Brownfield, Maria Leivas and husband Thomas of Austin and Jesse Garcia Jr. of Austin; grandchildren, Danielle Garcia of San Antonio, Jeremiah and wife Adriana of Austin and Joshua and Elijah Garcia of Austin.

Brisendine says job fair was success

Brownfield Industrial Development Corporation (BIDCorp), the Chamber of Commerce, Workforce Solutions, and Brownfield ISD held a job fair at the Brownfield Middle School Commons. The job fair was the first to be held by the four organizations, BIDCorp President Brian Brisendine spoke on the overall experience.

Filing period for primary election underway

Filing for candidates for open positions in the 2022 primary election began on November 13 and will run until December 13 at 6 p.m. Candidates interested in running for one of the nine positions open for election can do so by filing a CTA with Joint Elections Administrator Krystal Valentin at the Terry County Elections office at 507-A West Main Street.

City Council names Employee of Month, receive quarterly updates

The Brownfield City Council met on Thursday morning for its regularly scheduled meeting. The council was two members, short as City Manager Jeff Davis and Councilmember Isaiah Bautista were absent. The council received the quarterly updates from the Brownfield Fire Department and Municipal Court. They also reviewed the public health emergency declaration and went into an executive session before adjourning.
