Meadow Broncos are heating up!

Is it really, as some have called it, “basketball in shoulder pads?” Yes, 6 man football can be complicated, at times. In all honesty there’s not a lot of difference between 6 man and traditional football that we all know and love. To kick this off let’s go over some of the 6 man rules that are in place and the most different from 11 man. To start off, there has to be 2 exchanges in the backfield, the Quarterback can not scramble. The field is 80 yards from end zone to end zone and 40 from sideline to sideline. There is a 45 point mercy rule anytime after the 2nd quarter. In other words if a team is up by 45 points at any point after the 2nd quarter then the game is over. Everyone is eligible to carry the ball. You can hand the ball to a traditional lineman if you wish. First downs are 15 yards instead of 10 yards. Field goals are worth 4 points total, the extra point after a score is worth 2. If you do not kick the extra point and you pass or run the extra point it is worth 1 point. This is basically the whole breakdown of 6 man football that really is different form 11 man football. 6 man football can be very fast paced and very exciting. It’s not rare to see an 80 point game in a 6 man football game. Meadow football is underway with new faces but with some other seniors. One of the most notable returners would be Kaleb Sanchez who was voted by 806 HSSC as the pre-season offensive MVP. Head Coach and Athletic Director, coach Joshua Conner, talked with Brownfield News on his goals for the season, “ I want to be the last 806 team in the playoffs.” Along with that he said, “ We want to win some gold balls this season. I think we kind of set the tone big last year and we need to improve on that.” The Broncos started 2-a-days on Monday and Coach Conner talked about the goals of 2-a-days, “ Get bigger, faster, stronger. Get used to this head and get used to knowing what a winning mentality is.” With the season around the corner and the first game on Friday, August 26 against Baird coach Conner talked about his concerns and pros of his team. He said, “I don’t really have any concerns. I want to make everybody better than when they walked in here. Everybody puts in the work and I won’t really have any concerns if we do that.” Coach Conner says the pro of his team is that everybody works hard. The Broncos will take the field on Friday, August 26 against Baird for the first time of the season.
