After a disappointing homecoming performance last Friday, the Brownfield Cubs hit the road to take on the Dimmitt Bobcats where they were victorious 47-29. This started fast and furiously for the Cubs as they opened the game with the football and in 45 seconds had their first score of the game as Jesus “JJ” Martinez connected with Austin Martinez for a 19-yard touchdown.

Ken Paxton has been reinstated as Texas Attorney General after the Texas Senate on Saturday acquitted him of charges of bribery and misuse of office. Only two Republican senators joined the 12 Democrats in voting to convict him of some of the 16 charges heard by the Senate, with four other charges dismissed by the Senate, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Local schools committed to making sure refs are treated fairly

Whether officiating a laid-back recreational youth soccer game or a high-stakes basketball championship, referees have an increasingly tough job and are getting harder to find and retain. But local public school leaders told the News this week that they are committed to making sure that referees—who are hired and assigned through the University Interscholastic League, or UIL, and the local chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials, or TASO—are treated fairly.
