Services for Virginia Ann “Dutch” McElroy, 91, of Brownfield, were Friday, December 10, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Eric Martinez officiating. Visitation was held at Brownfield Funeral Home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Dutch went home to her Savior on December 7, 2021, surrounded by her loved ones. Dutch was born and raised in Terry County until she moved to Portales, NM. It was there she met and married R.V. McElroy in 1945. Together they raised a large family of 5 children. Dutch enjoyed cooking for her family and shared this love and many recipes with them over the years. She also loved crocheting, sewing, reading and was a very competitive card and dominos player. She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was dearly loved by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Dutch was preceded in death by her husband, R.V.; her parents, Victor and Paralee Starnes; her daughter, Susan Roberts; her sister, Alice Roberts; and one great-great grandson. She is survived by three sons, Don McElroy and wife Mayme of Crosbyton, Mitchell McElroy and wife Shelly of Portland, TX, Jeff McElroy and wife Mitzi of Brownfield, and one daughter, Jeanie Richards and husband Royce of Brownfield, and two sisters, Betty Fitzgerald of Clovis, NM and Mickey Pinkston of Brownfield. Dutch was “Granny” to a multitude of children including 20 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren. She also had numerous nieces and nephews.
