Funeral services for Roy Duane “Pete” Harris were held 2 pm Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Brownfield First Baptist Church with Dr. Matt Baird officiating. Burial followed in the Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home. There was a family visitation on Monday, January 7, 2019 from 6pm to 8pm at Brownfield Funeral Home.

Pete passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 in Brownfield. He was born July 31, 1923 to Roy Carlton and Mary Emma Harris in Brownfield. Pete served in the Army Air Corp during WWII where he earned a Distinguished Flying Cross. He married Nona Fae Watson on May 17, 1944 in Brownfield. Pete owned and operated Harris Flying Service. Pete received the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic award and the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award. Pete is preceded in death by his wife, Nona Fae Harris, and sister, Lucylle. Pete is survived by two daughters, Duanne Whitehead and husband, Bryan, of Austin, Marissa Durham and husband, Dustin, of Brownfield; 3 granddaughters, Dhana Harris of Austin, Taryn Simental of Brownfield, Keista Serafin of Luling; 9 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
