Roberto Curiel, age 68, of Hondo, Tx, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, April 8, 2020. He is reunited with his parents, Anastacio and Guadalupe Curiel, and his brother Eliseo Curiel, who preceded him in death. He is also with his sister Juanita C Perez who followed him home to the Lord on April 11, 2020. He was born in Brownfield, Texas, on October 25, 1951. His humility is something all of those who knew him will carry in their hearts. He had a heart that was larger than life. He touched lives through his service to the Lord and by his love, faith, and prayers. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord, his family, his church and his community. He proudly served as an officer for the Knights of Columbus Council #7323 at St Dominic Catholic Church and as a Fourth Degree Knight with Assembly #1102, at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church. He loved his brother Knights. As a Knight he helped in the booths at our church festivals and working the hot barbeque pit for the Knight’s annual barbeque plate sale. He led the 40 Cans of Lent drive which helped stock the St Vincent de Paul pantry at St Dominic and organized and recruited children for the Free Throw Competition at Jim G Martin Elementary School. He served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, at the 10am mass on Sundays. He served tirelessly as a team member on ACTS retreats and several Ministry of the Third Cross retreats. He was a true testament to God’s humility, love and mercy for us all. He had a strong devotion to our Blessed Mother. He participated in a pilgrimage in thanksgiving for his answered prayers on her feast day, December 12, 2018. The pilgrimage was a 17 mile walk with his daughter that started at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic church in Helotes, Tx and ended at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic church on El Paso street in San Antonio, Tx. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was the patriarch of his family and had a way of making people feel at home and loved. He brought so much joy and lots of laughs to everyone he met. His light will continue to shine brightly from above and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Sylvia Curiel of 50 years, his 4 children, Sofie and Imelda Curiel, Robby Curiel and his wife Shanna and Anastacio Rey Curiel and his wife Joanne. He leaves behind a legacy of great love and we will continue to see him in the faces of his 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Jose and Ruben Curiel, his brother in law Arturo Perez; 2 sisters and their husbands, Matilde and Mario Perez and Silvia and Andy Perez. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St Dominic Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. with the funeral mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. A closed interment will take place on Friday, April 9, 2021. In lieu of flowers please donate to Janie’s Mission.
