The family of Jose Nicolas Silva, 83, of Brownfield announces the passing of their beloved husband, father and grandfather on July 1, 2022. He peacefully left this world surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. He will fondly be remembered as a man of great faith. He was born on March 15, 1939 in Rio Grande City, Texas to Pedro Sr. and Herminia Silva. He met the love of his life, Maria Silva, and mother of his children in Sublette, Kansas. They were married on December 21, 1966 and spent 55 amazing years together.

Jose is survived by his wife Maria Silva of Brownfield; 6 children, Jose Silva Jr. and wife, Estella of Brownfield, Cynthia Mendoza and husband, Manuel of Brownfield, Johnny Silva and wife, Vickie of Brownfield, Letty Stringham and husband, Jeff of Gilbert, AZ, Jimmy Silva and wife, Krissy of Brownfield, Crystal Gonzalez and husband, Miguel of Brownfield; 2 brothers and 2 sisters of La Casita, Rio Grande City, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and another great grandchild on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, Pedro Sr. and Herminia Silva, son, Benito Silva, brothers, Mariano, Baltazar, Pedro Jr., Roberto and Lupe, and one sister, Amalia Garza. Jose was a devoted family man and served as an elder of the church. He was most proud of the legacy he built with his wife. He never failed to say how much he loved his family. He was a man of many words filled with wisdom. He loved reading his bible and sharing the good news of his Saviour. He could carry a conversation with a complete stranger and befriended anyone he met, and always asked if they had Jesus in their heart. Jose was a man of many trades which included carpentry, construction and cooking. To his grandchildren he was the greatest pancake maker. He always said “No tengo nada, pero tengo frijoles!”.

He will be truly missed. His deepest desire was for his family and friends to seek God and find their salvation. We hold onto the hope that one day we will be reunited with him. As for now we hold on to the memories that we are left with. In the tribulations and victories of life he always said “My God is a GREAT God!”

A Funeral Service for Jose Silva will be held at 10 am on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Brownfield First Baptist Church with burial following in Brownfield Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home. Viewing will be Tuesday, July 5, 2022, from 10 am to 8 pm, and Wednesday, July 6, 2022, from 8 am to 8 pm at Brownfield Funeral Home.
