Millie Jo Smith, known to everyone as “Jo”, peacefully passed away on March 23, 2020 at the incredible age of 89. Jo passed away peacefully of natural causes in her home of over 40 years in Brownfield, Texas. Jo was born on August 14, 1930 in Stratford, Oklahoma to William and Flora Hannan. Jo was the second of 4 children including Dolly, Fred and Johniece. Jo was married to Tommy Smith for almost 30 years before his passing in 1991 and has resided in Brownfield for more than 40 years on both Buckley and E. Lake Street. Jo and Tommy’s main love was for each other and for their three children John, Lavidia, and Laquita. The love between children and parents was always evident thanks to Tommy and Jo maintaining a close relationship as a family. It was always known amongst the kids to come home to Brownfield, regardless of where in the world they were, to spend Christmas or Thanksgiving as a whole family. “Mimi” was especially adept at doting over her four grandchildren Stephenie, Brandy, Paul Jr., and Michael, who loved her, laughed with her, and learned from her. Her amazing life also blessed her with 12 great grandchildren who will have memories of Mimi as well. Through her love and empathy for all, Jo was very service oriented. She joyfully gave her love, time, and charity to friends, people in need, and members of the community, including people of the VFW post, the local nursing home, and countless others. Jo’s love for our savior, Jesus Christ, has earned her many jewels in her crown from our heavenly father as she now gets to sit by his side. This world was always a better place with her in it and will leave a void as she leaves to reap her rewards in heaven, She will be dearly and deeply missed by her family, friends, those she took care of, and those who took care of her. Jo’s legacy continues as she is survived by her sister Johniece, both her daughters, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Viewing services were held Friday, March 27th at Brownfield Funeral Home. All family and friends are warmly invited to come and pay their respects and say goodbye to Jo.
