John M. Garcia Jr. was born on March 17, 1963 to Juan Cuellar Garcia and Maria Martinez Garcia in Brownfield. He passed away on June 26, 2022. Memorial services for John will be on Saturday, July 23 at 11 a.m. at Primera Baptist church in Brownfield with Richard Morin officiating. John was a life long resident of Brownfield and a 1984 graduate of Brownfield High School. He worked for the City of Brownfield for 20 years before retiring in 2012. He also served as a volunteer fire fighter for 24 years. In his free time, John enjoyed crusing around town and spending time with his family and friends. John also enjoyed playing mobile games on his phone. He is proceeded in death by his parents and survived by his brother Manuel Garcia.

She was a quiet and gentle spirt and a faithful servant to the Lord. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Hawkins King; parents, S.L. and Cora Cook and a son-in-law, Lee Martin. Ruth is survived by her son, Kyle King and wife Dayna; daughters, Patty Snider and husband John and Paula Martin; 8 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

She married her childhood sweetheart Bennie on May 24, 1952 at Brownfield, Texas, They would have celebrated their 70 th wedding anniversary this year. LaDeane attended school at Meadow and Ropes School Districts. Bennie started his farming career in the Tokio area in 1957 with LaDeane by his side. In 1959, with 3 small children, they moved to the Brownfield area. There Bennie continued farming and LaDeane took care of the home while working the large vegetable garden and canning the bounty. Often she took homecooked meals out to the farm during harvesting season so the men could keep working into the night.

Jack married the love of his life, Mary Janelle Parks, in Plains, Texas on July 7, 1962, and they were blessed with three daughters. Jack was a 1957 graduate of Plains High School and obtained his bachelor’s degree from Howard Payne University. He later earned a master’s degree from Texas Tech University. Jack taught school in Plains before serving 12 years as principal at Smyer and Sands (Ackerly) High School. He moved his family back to Plains in 1978 where he became a strong contributor to the agriculture industry in Yoakum County and the region as both the owner/operator of an aerial applicator business and as a farmer.
