Robert "Bob” Earl Smith, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed from this life into the loving arms of our savior on Friday, March 29, 2013. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 85 years on Monday, April 1 at 2 p.m. at 82nd and Avenue V Church of Christ. Robert Earl was born on February 19, 1928 in Loraine, Mitchell County, Texas, to David Ringold and Frankie Leona Lang Smith. Bob resided in Loraine until the age of 14, moving to Brownfield, Texas in 1942 and moved again in 1943 to 8 miles south east of Levelland, Texas. It was there he met his future wife, Genevra, on a school bus. He was taken by her red hair and her gorgeous figure and the rest is history.
Robert graduated from Levelland High School in 1943 and married Genevra Leona Hale in 1945 in Smyer, Texas.
Linda Kay was born to Robert and Genevra in 1946 and Karen Latrice was born in 1948.
Bob accepted Christ as his Savior in 1947. He was a member of the Church of Christ until death.
Robert farmed cotton and milo in Terry and Hockley counties for 60 years and worked for three years at United Supermarket in Lubbock.
Robert was an accomplished horseman and owned a number of prize winning quarter horses over the years. His lineage includes a number of cowboys and Robert always displayed the best qualities of the cowboy tradition: a man of his word, ready help for a stranger in need, and good common horse sense.
