BILLY BAGWELL, 1928-2013

Services for Billy Lee Bagwell, 84, of Plains will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Plains First Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Seaton and Rev. Patrick Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Plains Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.


A family visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Brownfield Funeral Home.


Billy passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 in Denver City. He was born June 6, 1928 to Lee Roy and Thelma (Stevens) Bagwell in Stephenville. He graduated from Union High School. He was a farmer for many years and then worked for the Plains School District until retiring. Billy was a member and Deacon at Plains First Baptist Church.


Billy married Mardiva Powell on February 5, 1959 in Paducah. She preceded him in death. 


He is also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wayne Bagwell; a sister, Bobbye Powell; and two grandsons, Corey Kelton and Brett Bagwell. 


Billy is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Gardner and her husband Dennis of Sundown; two sons, Roger Bagwell of Lubbock and Russell Bagwell of Plains; and five grandchildren, Jason Kelton, Sarah Kelton, Kristin Gardner, A.J. Bagwell and Abigail Bagwell. 


The family suggests memorials to Buckner Children’s Home, 129 Brentwood Ave, Lubbock, Texas 79416.

The Bagwells were our neighbors in Brownfield, Texas in the Challis Community. Billy was a good man and always willing to lend a helping hand. Bobby Jo and I rode the bus together growing up. They were a wonderful family.
