Wellman-Union lost again Tuesday, but at least they lost to the best.
The Wildcats’ latest in a string of unfortunate defeats was a frustrating 28-86 to the always-talented Borden County.
"It was a tough game,” said Head Coach JoeBob Ussery.
Scorers included Kirk Martin 8, Braden Caldwell 7, Kirby Bailey 6, Luis Gonzales 4 and Martin Loewen 3.
The Lady Wildcats suffered their own Borden County loss, at 26-44 and bringing their records to 2-6 in district and 4-15 overall. They were down 6-10 at the end of the first quarter, 12-21 at halftime and 22-34 at the end of the third. Rosa Olivas led with eight points.
Head Coach Todd Ellis attributed the loss to the Lady ‘Cats inability to recover from mid-game foul trouble, but was pleased with their effort throughout the match.
"The girls played Borden County a lot better this time than the last time,” he said. "I am proud of them.”
The Wildcats and Lady ‘Cats will travel to Loop Friday to take on the Longhorns.
