Wildcats, Lady ‘Cats lose in Grady

Published January 04, 2013 11:00pm by Josie Musico

The Wellman-Union Wildcats were clawed Friday night by a pack of the same mascot, but certainly not due to lack of effort.
Terry County’s ‘Cats suffered a 19-72 loss in Grady, but played great the first two quarters against that school’s 11th-ranked Wildcats.

"We played our best half of the year,” said head coach JoeBob Ussery.

Wellman-Union was down 10-20 at the end of the first quarter and 15-30 at halftime, but scored only four points in the third and not a single basket in the fourth. Scorers included Kirby Bailey 7, Kirk Martin 4, Vincent Tedford 4, Braden Caldwell 2 and Luis Gonzales 2.
Now 0-13, the ‘Cats are aiming for their first season victory when they host Klondike Tuesday.

The Lady ‘Cats suffered a frustrating Grady loss of their own, 16-60. They landed only a basket or two each quarter, while their opponents never stopped moving the scoreboard.

"We let too many things take us out of our game,” said head coach Todd Ellis. "It got ugly quickly, and there was no recovery.”
Tori Browne led the Lady ‘Cats with six points. The team is now 2-3 in district and 4-12 overall.
