Obituary - Pete McNiel

Services for Roland Ralph "Pete” McNiel, 88, of Brownfield will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2013 at Brownfield Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with his son, Stan McNiel, officiating.

The family will have a visitation from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3 at Brownfield Funeral Home.

Pete was born December 1, 1924 to Clyde Franklin and Bertha McNiel in Haskell County. He graduated from Union High School. Pete served in the United States Navy. 

He married Joy Riley on September 6, 1949 in Lovington, N.M. Pete was a member of Union Baptist Church and the Odd Fellows. 

Pete was preceded in death by his son, Terry Lee McNiel, and sister, Estelle Miller.

Pete is survived by his wife, Joy McNiel of Brownfield; six children, Louise Close of Pampa, Stan McNiel of Austin, Sherry Baskin-Neitsch of Levelland, Cathy Norrod of Altadena, Calif., Jerry McNiel of Brownfield and Chris McNiel of Wichita, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; four great grandchildren and a niece, Marietta Sooter of Lubbock.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a charity of one's choice.
